Sapa was found during the inspection about the hill tribes under
the French colonial period. The first exploring group came to Lao Cai on 1898.
In 1903, during working on information for the map, those
explorers found the plain of Lo Suoi Tung and Sa Pa Village that was marked for
the born of Sapa Town.
Main hill tribes in Sapa are H’mong, Tay , Dao Do , Giay, Xa Pho.
And now, Kinh people moved there a lot for doing business as Sapa is on
development as a special tourist attraction.
Sapa surrounds by Hoang Lien Son mountain range and the famous
Fansipan summit that creates very nice climate around the year. It is Spring in
the morning that is around 15oC, warmer at noon as Summer with light sunshine
and breezes , foggy in the evening as Fall and Winter season at night. Sapa is
one of very rarely places in Viet Nam where it was snowing sometimes. In 1971 –
2011, there are 15 snowing times in Sapa. The strongest one is on the year
1968, it was snowed from 3:00 AM to 14:00 PM with 20cm of snow.
Nowadays, Sapa attracts a lot of tourists by its beautiful scenes,
nice climate but the most attraction is the tribes of people. Many special
tours for trekking and homestay offer to travelers a chance to meet , stay
together and learn about the hill tribes living.
